| 38" x 53" Completed in 2006 This quilt celebrates the transformation of those who choose to rise above their own limitations. The inspirational pictures came from gardens and the zoo. I did a drawing that became my pattern. I hand painted the fabrics to create the leaves and birds. Each leaf was sewn and quilted separately to give them texture and a three dimension look while the birds' faces were hand painted in inks and paints. All of the fabric was then machine appliqued to another hand dyed piece of fabric. I quilted it to shadow the shape of the leaves. 75" x 48" Completed in 2006 A watercolor painting of the Iceland Poppies in our yard became the inspiration for this quilt. As the neighbors all walked by they would comment on how the flowers all looked like crepe paper. I hand painted the fabric for the flowers, leaves and stems. I then fussy cut the petals and sewed seams to create some texture. They were then quilted separately before I appliquéd them to the quilt base. I then went back in and painted some shadows and details to help the flowers 3D effect. The flowers centers beaded and stitched to help complete the illusion. The pods were stuffed and embellished with yarn and the background was embellished with crystals. | Carousel of Color This quilt was designed specifically for the Hoffman Challenge. It was a smaller version of a painting I had completed years ago. I took elements of it and used the fabric. It traveled all over the US for a year. I hand painted much of the details and shading in this quilt. FOR SALE |
